Neil Warnock says Mehmet Dalman and Cardiff will deal fairly with Nantes over Emiliano Sala fee

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock reflects on Emiliano Sala's funeral which took place in Argentina on Saturday

Neil Warnock says he is confident Cardiff will deal with the fee for the late Emiliano Sala "in the right way".

Cardiff and Nantes have agreed to extend the deadline on the first instalment of the £15m fee until February 27.

The Premier League side completed a club-record deal for Sala on January 19 but he died when the private plane carrying him to Cardiff crashed into the English Channel two days later.

Sala's body was recovered from the Channel but pilot David Ibbotson remains missing.

Nantes wrote to Cardiff earlier this month asking that the first of three instalments be paid but Cardiff said they wanted to wait until investigation of the crash was complete - although they have stated they will be 'honourable' over the fee if they are contractually obliged to pay.

Asked about the apparent dispute, Warnock said: "There has been a lot of stuff written.

"I know people have got jobs to do, but I think there has been a lot of surmising things.

"I have known (chairman) Mehmet Dalman since I have been here - and I am quite sure the club will deal with it in the right way.

"They have asked for an extension and I think Nantes have agreed to that. Certain things were done, probably in reflection that shouldn't have been done, that stirred everybody up.

"I have got every confidence in Mehmet, that it will come to a conclusion in the near future.

"It should have been kept between the clubs really. All I can talk about is the football side. Mehmet and Ken (Choo, executive director) are dealing with all that side."

Warnock attended Sala's funeral in Argentina last weekend and said he was glad to have made the trip to pay his respects.

"They are a very close-knit community," he said. "Everyone came to the wake in the village hall.

"I have never seen anything like it.

"I don't know how the mother coped really, people were coming up to her talking about when he was four years old, seven years old.

"Every time a story came up, she was crying her eyes out and it was a non-stop day. After we had been to the crematorium, she had a bit of closure.

"It was nice to be there, I had no doubt it was the right thing to do. It was an experience seeing all the emotion."
