Matt Targett has signed a new five-year deal at Southampton.
The defender, a product of the Saints academy, is now committed to the club until the summer of 2022.
Targett was restricted to just eight appearances last season due to a hamstring injury, but has impressed new manager Mauricio Pellegrino in pre-season.
"It's a great way to kick-off the season," the 21-year-old told the club's website.
"I am really happy to sign. I've been at the club since I was eight so to extend my time here is only a good thing.
"Physically I feel good. I think I feel the best I've ever felt. I think the injury has only helped me improve physically and mentally.
"I have come back from it all and got my fitness back - I am feeling fitter and stronger so it's all positive at the moment."
Targett, who was named Southampton's Young Player of the Season for 2014/15, has featured 40 times in total for the club.
