Southampton have completed the signing of winger Nathan Redmond from Norwich City on a five-year contract.

The England U21 international has become Saints' first arrival of the summer after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical on Saturday.

Southampton made their move for Redmond, whose transfer fee is believed to be £11m, after he returned from holiday after featuring for England U21s in their title success at the Toulon tournament in France last month, playing alongside Saints trio James Ward-Prowse, Jack Stephens and Matt Targett.

The 22-year-old, who has made 28 appearances for England U21s, is likely to replace Sadio Mane at Southampton with Liverpool in talks over bringing the 24-year-old Senegal international forward to Anfield from St Mary's for a fee in the region of £30m.

Redmond joined Norwich from Birmingham City in July 2013 and scored 13 goals in 122 appearances for the Canaries.

He netted six times in 34 Premier League matches last season but was unable to save Norwich from relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Redmond will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season testing on Tuesday, as Southampton begin their preparations for the 2016/17 campaign.

"I'm really pleased to have made the move to Southampton," Redmond said. "It's a fantastic football club with excellent facilities, and I really feel I can develop my game here.

"The club's style of play has always been excellent. They like to play attacking football and it's a style I feel I can really fit in well with.

"When Southampton said they were interested it felt like the right move for me, and I can't wait to get started now."

Saints executive director of football Les Reed said: "I'm delighted to be able to welcome Nathan to Southampton Football Club.

"Despite being just 22, Nathan has gained plenty of experience in the Premier League with Norwich City, showing his quality at the top level on a consistent basis.

"He has also performed exceptionally well on the international stage, playing a key role in helping England U21s win the Toulon Tournament this summer.

"While Nathan has already gained Premier League experience, he has the potential to continue developing and becoming an integral part of the squad for years to come."

Redmond was also relegated in his first season at Norwich but they bounced straight back to the Premier League by winning promotion via the 2015 Championship play-off final, in which the winger scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough.

And he has described that game as the highlight of his career at Carrow Road in a farewell message to the fans.

He posted a message on Twitter which read: "Would like to thank everyone involved with Norwich City Football Club on a rollercoaster three years spent at the club.

"First I would like to thank the fans at Norwich City for the amazing support you [have] shown me and the lads throughout my time there.

"Thank you to the lads and all the coaching staff for everything they have done to help me develop to this point in my career.

"It's time for me to move on but I will always have the Wembley memory which will last a lifetime and I hope that day will live long in the memory of you too. Thank you again, hopefully see you back in the Premier League soon."
