West Brom have approached Fulham with the intention of signing midfielder Tom Cairney, Sky Sports News understands.

The Championship side's position this January has been that they do not intend to sell any of their players and are looking to improve the squad should the right opportunity arise.

Fulham sources have told Sky Sports News there has not yet been a bid for their captain Cairney, who is one of the Whites' star performers.

Cairney is contracted at Craven Cottage until 2021, having signed a one-year extension to his previous deal last summer following interest from Newcastle.

But he is wanted by West Brom as they battle to stay in the Premier League under new manager Alan Pardew.
