Premier League side West Bromwich Albion were edged out 2-1 by non-League Torquay United in a pre-season friendly on Monday night.

Second-half goals from Callum Hall and Brett Williams were enough for the National League hosts, while Matt Phillips pulled one back with a fine strike late on in the contest.

Craig Gardner fired just over from 20 yards early on before Jonathan Leko's effort was beaten away Brendan Moore later in a goalless first half.

Hall's spectacular goal put Torquay ahead, striking home into the corner of the net from 25 yards on 52 minutes.
Williams then slotted past Ben Foster to double the hosts' lead seven minutes later.
