Darren Fletcher has told Saido Berahino to let his football do the talking if he remains at West Bromwich Albion another year.

Berahino has one year remaining on his current contract at the Baggies, but turned down the offer of a new four-year deal on Monday

Sky Sports News HQ understands the 22-year-old sees his future away from the club, with Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Watford all monitoring his situation, but West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace could let the player see out the final year of his deal.

Last summer, Berahino threatened to "never play for Peace" again after a move to Tottenham Hotspur broke down, and Baggies captain Fletcher has urged his team-mate not to enter into a similar war of words this time around.

Berahino said in February he regrets his actions after his move to Tottenham collapsed in the summer

"If he signs, great, and if he doesn't he might be here for another season so we want him to get his head down and score as many goals as possible," Fletcher told the Express and Star

"We want good players to stay here because you have to pay a lot of money to replace them and Saido is no different.

What do West Brom need?

We take a look at the ways in which West Brom need to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

"We know Saido is a great goalscorer and you need goalscorers in this league but we need a Saido who is fit and strong and with his head wanting to play for West Bromwich Albion.

"He looks sharp and a lot fitter this summer and he is going to have a good pre-season behind him as well.

"If he signs his new contract, it shows he wants to be here and he can get back to showing people what a great player and a great goalscorer he is. If he doesn't, we just hope he gets his head down and gives 100 per cent and helps the team."

Berahino started as West Brom lost 2-1 to French champions Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in their final pre-season game of their tour of Austria.
