Derby County have signed forward Nick Blackman from Sky Bet Championship rivals Reading for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Rams.

Blackman, whose contract with the Royals was due to expire at the end of the season, has scored 13 goals in 28 appearances this term and had attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday.

However, Derby have won the race for his signature and head coach Paul Clement is pleased to add him to his squad as he bids for promotion to the Premier League.

"There has been a lot of interest in him so we're naturally happy that he has chosen to join us. We've got a number of talented players in the attacking areas of our squad and Nick only enhances that."

Blackman was with Macclesfield and Blackburn early in his career and joined Reading from Sheffield United in January 2013.

Royals chief executive Nigel Howe told his club's official website: "The club made extensive efforts to negotiate a new contract with Nick over the course of the last four or five months but no conclusion was forthcoming, so with his current deal due to expire this summer we believe this move is the right thing for all parties concerned.

"This deal will also allow us the chance to potentially re-invest in the first team this month, helping the manager to bolster his squad should the right opportunities arise during the transfer window."
