Watford skipper Troy Deeney says Aaron Ramsey "bottled it" when turning his back on a free-kick in the Hornets' recent 2-1 win at the Emirates.

Watford were on a dreadful run of seven Premier League games without a win, and had been knocked out of the FA Cup by Millwall the weekend before.

But Deeney thinks that Ramsey turning his back may have been the turning point for Watford, who followed up their shock victory in north London by beating Burnley 2-1 last weekend.

Younus Kaboul's shot deflected off the Wales international in the 10th minute, and the Hornets went on to win the game.

And Deeney was not impressed.

"I think he bottled it a little bit. Ramsey's mistake was our blessing," Deeney told the Evening Standard.

"I have come up with Sean Dyche and Malky Mackay [both former Watford managers] and if we had turned our back on the ball like that, they would have had strong words with us."
