Cleverley has made just four starts for the Goodison Park side in the Premier League this season, also coming on as a substitute six times.

The 27-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team since his move from Old Trafford in June 2015.

Cleverley did feature more in his debut campaign on Merseyside and scored twice in wins over Newcastle and Bournemouth.

With Morgan Schneiderlin now having followed the same path from United, however, Cleverley has made the move to Vicarage Road and will help the Hornets with their bid to stay in the Premier League.

Watford started the campaign relatively well under Walter Mazzarri but have fallen down the standings and are now 14th in the table.

Although they are still seven points clear of the relegation zone, they have failed to win any of their last five league outings and have collected just one point from a possible 15.

Mazzarri has said he is confident of adding new faces to his squad this month and Cleverley has now become his first recruit.
