Troy Deeney targets more Premeir League goals for Watford

On the back of scoring his first Premier League goal, Troy Deeney met fans at Vicarage Road

Watford skipper Troy Deeney hopes he won’t have to wait another 10 games for his next Premier League goal.

Deeney scored 21 goals for Watford in the Championship last season but had to wait until Saturday's 2-0 win against Stoke to net his first Premier League goal for The Hornets.

"Only when I scored did I realise how much I missed scoring," Deeney told Sky Sports News HQ, after spending almost three hours in the club shop signing merchandise for supporters.

"Beforehand it was all about the team, but then I scored and it gave me a sense of relief. Obviously the emotion of waiting 10 games to score all came out and it ended up with a bit of a daft celebration to be fair.

Manager Quique Sanchez Flores insists he never doubted Deeney's quality and says he expects the goals to keep flowing from his striker between now and the end of the season.

"The performances from Deeney generally are really good," Flores said.

"He didn't have an obsession with how he had not scored. He's scoring in the natural way now. He's scoring because he's playing well, he's scoring because he's close to the box, so finally it comes good.

"He is amazing, he is fast and passionate with the work. He is ambitious and he has everything we need. He is a big leader for the team and in the dressing room and has a connection with the stands.

"It is important for the strikers to score, he has scored for the first time and we are confident now he will score a lot."
