Michail Antonio has signed a new four-year contract at West Ham following protracted talks with the Hammers' player of the season.

Antonio, who signed a new deal until 2020 less than a year ago, has added a further year until 2021 and joked "it's about time", having discussed a new contract since January.

Sky sources reported in early April that talks were at a standstill, with the player not satisfied with the terms offered to him by the east London club - but he is now understood to be earning around £70,000 per week.

But the player had been keen to stay and, following a Hammers' source telling Sky Sports News HQ that Antonio was "going nowhere" this summer, the club have finally made a breakthrough.

Antonio, who is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring problem, said: "I'm over the moon, I've loved my time here and I'm just happy that we have managed to get things sorted so I can move onto next season and do what I've done this season.

"I'd like to thank the chairman [David Sullivan] because we had a nice little deal for this to get sorted. He's a lovely man and thanks very much."

Sullivan said: "His best years are still ahead of him and we are looking forward to seeing him spend them in a Claret and Blue shirt. We wish Michail well with the rehabilitation off his hamstring injury and look forward to seeing him come back stronger next season."
