West Ham are in talks with Inter Milan over a deal to sign former Newcastle defender Davide Santon on loan, according to Sky sources.

The Hammers have offered a loan fee of £460,000 for the Italian left-back, according to Sky sources, with the option to make the deal permanent next summer for £5m.

West Ham are seeking cover for first-choice left-back Aaron Cresswell, who was ruled out for up to four months in July after suffering a knee ligament injury.

Sky sources also understand West Ham have had bids for Norwich's Martin Olsson and Hull's Andrew Robertson turned down.

Santon, who started his career at Inter, joined Newcastle in 2011 and went on to make 94 appearances for the club during his three-and-a-half years at St James' Park.
