Manuel Lanzini will fly back to London after Argentina confirmed he will not be fit to take part in the Rio Olympics.
The West Ham midfielder has been with the Argentina camp in Miami preparing for the summer tournament after being selected in the final 18-man squad.
Lanzini's involvement could have seen him miss the start of the Premier League season with West Ham, however, the Argentine Football Association confirmed a knee injury has ended his hopes of participating at the Games.
The 23-year-old could now be available for the opening game of the new campaign against Chelsea on August 15, live on Sky Sports.
West Ham have already received an injury blow with defender Aaron Cresswell set to be out for up to four months with a knee ligament injury.
Boca Juniors attacker Cristian Pavon will replace Lanzini in the Argentina squad, having been named initially as a reserve.
Argentina have already had a number of players ruled out of the tournament either through injury or clubs blocking their players' involvement.
