Charlton held Walsall to a 1-1 draw at The Valley thanks to a second-half equaliser from Tony Watt.
The early stages were all Walsall with Simeon Jackson firing over from six yards out with the goal at his mercy and Charlton's Joe Aribo forced to clear off the line from a corner.
Charlton gradually got back into the game without creating any real chances.
Then, with 44 minutes on the clock, Walsall striker Jackson raced on to a loose ball to fire past Declan Rudd to put the visitors ahead.
Charlton were back on level terms on 61 minutes when Watt drove home through a crowd of players after Aribo found the Scottish striker 12 yards out.
Moments later Charlton defender Jorge Teixeira made a last-ditch tackle to prevent Erhun Oztumer tapping home.
Charlton cranked up the pressure and both Teixeira and Aribo had efforts deflected just over the bar.
At the other end Walsall's Jackson fired wide from just 12 yards out in the visitor's last real chance.
