Charlton have signed central defender Jason Pearce from Wigan for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old has signed a three-year contract and will be in contention for their opening game of the League One season at Bury on Saturday.
That fixture also represents new manager Russell Slade's first competitive game in charge.
"I've known about the club's interest for a while now and I'm glad to finally get it signed," Pearce told the club's official website.
"When I spoke to the manager he really wanted me to be part of his team that will be trying to get straight back up into the Championship, and I'm really happy that I am."
Slade, who earlier this week recruited goalkeeper Declan Rudd on a season-long loan deal from Norwich, added: "Jason certainly knows what it takes to get out of this league.
"He's an absolute warrior, a leader, winner, and will be an example on the pitch to all of his team-mates and our younger players as well."
