Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho could be a doubt for the rest of the season after limping off shortly after half-time in the Manchester derby.

The 33-year old left the Old Trafford pitch with muscular injuries in both legs after an earlier collision with Paul Pogba and will be assessed on Thursday.

Fernandinho, who has been in and out of the team with separate injuries this season, had returned to the starting line-up for the game against Manchester United after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Tottenham last Saturday.

The 33-year-old said: "We will see on Thursday. We are going to make the scan and we will see. I will talk to the doctor and he will make the best decision for everybody.

"When I blocked the shot from Paul I felt my knee. It twisted a little bit. I could continue playing but I came off. That's what it is."

City boss Pep Guardiola added: "In the half-time, there was a little problem with both legs. Muscular, he was not comfortable. We will see on Thursday."

The game was goalless at the time but goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane, who replaced Fernandinho, gave City a 2-0 win to take them back to the top of the Premier League.

There is also concern over Ilkay Gundogan who limped away from a late challenge by Jesse Lingard just before half-time which infuriated Guardiola on the sidelines.

The midfielder will also be assessed on Thursday.
