Manchester City's Vincent Kompany eyes title-clinching win at Etihad

Vincent Kompany says 'everybody in blue' would love to clinch the title with a Manchester derby win

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany says winning the title against local rivals United would be a "once in a lifetime opportunity".

The runaway Premier League leaders beat Stoke 2-0 on Monday night and are just two victories away from securing the title.

And, if they can win at Everton on March 31, they could finish the job in the Manchester derby at the Etihad on Saturday, April 7, live on Sky Sports.

Kompany said: "I think everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"But steady, we've one more game before United, which will be difficult, and then we see.

"I'm sure it won't be handed to us.

"It's that time of year where you feel every win takes you one step closer to your goal.

"The manager said it before the game, we'll look to keep this standard until the end of the season and hopefully into next season as well."

City boss Pep Guardiola is confident his side will be champions, but is not overly concerned when they officially wrap things up.

"We are very close," he said.

"Twelve months, 81 points. It's a lot of points. We just lost one game.

"To be champions is complicated. Our legacy behind us is not big in terms of a lot of titles. To grow, we have to win and win the most prestigious title in England.

"As soon as possible is better, but it doesn't matter where. What's important is to be champions.

"Between Manchester United, we have quarter-finals. We will be focusing on the Champions League. The target is the next game against Everton, and try to play good and try to win the game.

"If we play solid like we did today, sooner or later we'll be champions."
