FC Twente have failed in an attempt to sign Bersant Celina on a season-long loan from Manchester City, according to Sky sources.

The Dutch side had been eager to recruit the 19-year-old midfielder for the forthcoming Eredivisie campaign.

Sky Sports understand, however, they were unable to match the former Stromsgodset youth's personal terms and the proposed switch has fallen through.

Celina - capped at various youth levels by Norway before switching allegiance to Kosovo - made good progress last season as he made his first senior appearances for City.

The teenager made his debut as a replacement for Kelechi Iheanacho in their 3-0 FA Cup win over Norwich at Carrow Road in January.

Celina had other outings in the competition against Aston Villa and Chelsea - latterly as a starter - and played against Leicester in the Premier League, assisting Sergio Aguero's goal in a 3-1 defeat.

He also played in Kosovo's first full international as FIFA members against Faroe Islands in June but was sent off for violent conduct in the first half of a 2-0 win in Frankfurt.

Celina has featured for City in pre-season under new manager Pep Guardiola, playing just over half an hour of the 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

He was then listed as a substitute against Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup but stayed on the bench for the entirety of the 1-1 draw.
