Sergio Aguero will need to be at his best if Manchester City are to see off 10-time champions Real Madrid and reach their first ever Champions League final.

Aguero knows Real well from his time at city rivals Atletico and has also found the net against them in a City shirt - but he's still waiting for his first win.

Here's his history against Real Madrid…

First game

Aguero arrived as a £25m signing with an exciting reputation in the summer of 2006 but it was an inauspicious introduction to the Madrid derby - a fixture that Atletico had not won since the Argentine was 11 years old.

After coming off the bench, he had the chance to win the match but scooped an effort over the bar late on. "It was a nice idea, but he got the execution wrong," said Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Atletico strike partner Fernando Torres called the 1-1 draw "two points lost".

Aguero's first goal against Real Madrid came the following season at the Bernabeu and it didn't take long either as he nipped in at the back post to score from Mariano Pernia's corner in the first minute of the match.

However, Real soon equalised through Raul and new signing Wesley Sneijder scored a late winner. Despite the game being almost nine years ago, Aguero can expect to be up against Pepe and Sergio Ramos on Tuesday - just as he was that night in the Spanish capital.

Nearly man

Aguero was returning from injury and only fit enough to be on the bench for the November 2009 derby but almost made himself the hero in unlikely circumstances only to squander a stoppage-time chance for Quique Sanchez Flores' side.

After Atletico had gone three down inside an hour, Aguero was taken down by Ramos, resulting in a red card for the defender, and went on to score his side's second to make it 3-2. But put clean through on goal with an opportunity to score an equaliser in the closing moments, he was denied by Casillas.

Last derby

Aguero was in top form for his final Madrid derby in March 2011. In fact, he was in the midst of a sequence of seven successive La Liga games in which he would find the net. He duly scored late on but with his side already two down, it was not enough.

First-half goals by Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil earned Real the points and while Aguero was arguably the best player on the pitch, it meant his time at Atletico would end without a derby win. He was transferred to Manchester City the following summer.

City scorer

The move to City was supposed to be the end of his Real Madrid disappointments but in his first meeting against the old rivals, Aguero's team was eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage.

Needing a win to maintain any hope of progression, Aguero played his part. Alvaro Arbeloa was sent off for a foul on the striker inside the box, with Aguero converting the subsequent penalty. But Roberto Mancini's men couldn't force a winner and the 1-1 draw saw them go out.

What next?

Thirteen might be unlucky for some but Aguero will be hoping this is the game that ends his run of results against Real Madrid after 12 without a win. "Never defeating Real when I was with Atletico was a real regret for me," says Aguero. His next chance comes on Tuesday.
