Goals from Andreas Weimann and Charles N'Zogbia saw Aston Villa get their US tour off to a winning start against FC Dallas on Thursday.

Both teams took time to settle in the pre-season friendly at the Toyota Stadium before Villa’s Enda Stevens forced keeper Raul Fernandez into a fine save on the half-hour mark.

At the other end, Dynamo Kiev loanee Andres Escobar spurned a good chance soon afterwards when shooting well over the bar.

The hosts were made to pay shortly before the break when Weimann scored past Fernandez following good work from Darren Bent, who broke down the right before squaring to his team-mate.

Villa boss Paul Lambert changed all 11 players at the break and the tourists were soon two-up when N'Zogbia scored from a free-kick on 49 minutes.

Villa were then untroubled as they cruised to a comfortable win, with Lambert’s men next taking on Houston Dynamo on Saturday before heading back to Europe
