John Terry under consideration for Aston Villa No 2 role but possible appointment dependent on new boss

John Terry is under consideration to join Aston Villa's coaching staff as a number two, but any possible appointment remains dependent on the identity of their new boss, according to Sky sources.

It is understood that the Villa hierarchy will not impose backroom staff on the new head coach.

Terry announced his retirement from playing on Sunday after a 23-year career.

Bruce was sacked by Villa last week after two years in the job, and following one win in 10 matches.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has distanced himself from the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa and says he is 'very happy' at Celtic.

Villa bosses, however, do retain an interest in the possibility of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers taking over, with an initial shortlist of five names now whittled down to Henry and the Northern Irishman.
