Aston Villa's caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald insists incoming boss Remi Garde is inheriting a group of players who will give their all to help the club avoid the drop.
Garde was appointed Villa manager on Monday but it was MacDonald who oversaw Villa's sixth consecutive defeat as they lost 3-1 at Tottenham.
Villa remain bottom of the Premier League table with just four points from their opening 11 games, but MacDonald says Villa can turn their season around.
"If you look at the game as a whole, for the new manager, the shift that the players put in over the course of the 90 minutes - he's got something to work with," said MacDonald.
"They've got a great desire to work, work, and work. They need to utilise their knowledge a little bit better, they need to take care of the ball a bit better.
"Obviously Remi with his experience of having played with Arsenal and with the work he's done at Lyon, I'm sure he'll be reiterating that as well."
Asked if Garde had any impact on team selection for the game, MacDonald replied: "No. he was late coming in with his flight, so he just left it down to ourselves.
"We actually came with a game plan, but that of course went out the window after conceding after two minutes.
"Second half, we seemed to have a bit more of a go, and started to create a few more chances.
"We're a bit disappointed to lose 3-1, but that is the score in the end. Disappointing, as it always is, but when you're down at the bottom of the league, you've got to keep fighting, and start again next time."
