Tottenham have secured the services of defender Davinson Sanchez from Ajax for a club-record fee.
The 21-year-old Colombia international completed a medical and all relevant paperwork on Wednesday afternoon and now just needs a work permit to officially become a Spurs player. He will wear the number six shirt.
Sanchez was Ajax's player of the year last season and was also a target for Barcelona and Inter Milan. The record-breaking fee could reach £38m, far exceeding the £31.5m Tottenham paid Newcastle for Moussa Sissoko last season.
"In the past week, many meetings have taken place with Davinson's business managers and with the Spurs," said Ajax's director of player policy Marc Overmars.
"For a long time, it didn't look like we would reach an agreement. The truth is that we didn't want to let him go, which was a factor too.
"When we got to this enormous amount, and it became clear that Davinson would leave, I discussed the upcoming weeks with my colleagues at the club. We all agreed that this transfer period is over for us in terms of outbound players. We're not letting anyone else go."
