Tottenham are close to agreeing a fee with AZ Alkmaar to sign Vincent Janssen, Sky sources understand.

The 22-year-old striker trained on his own at Alkmaar's training base on Friday morning as the club's finalise negotiations.

Janssen has already described a move to Spurs as a "dream", having already visited their training ground in June after AZ gave permission for them to speak to the Dutch international.

There has since been a stalemate over the transfer fee, with Alkmaar rejecting an offer close to £15m last week.

But sources understand both clubs are now confident the deal will go ahead.

It is understood the Eredivisie club have been advised by 'Moneyball' baseball expert Billy Beane, who has insisted Janssen was worth more than Spurs' original offer.

Paris Saint-Germain and Wolfsburg have also been interested in Janssen, who was the Eredivisie's top scorer in his breakthrough season last term, with 27 goals.

Wolfsburg had a bid of £15m rejected and immediately cooled their interest, as did PSG, once they were told Janssen's heart was set on a move to Spurs.

Sky sources reported back in May that head coach Mauricio Pochettino, assistant Jesus Perez and head of recruitment Paul Mitchell scouted Janssen in a Euro 2016 warm-up game against Republic of Ireland.
