Portsmouth secured a third home win of the week with a comfortable 2-0 triumph against Northampton.
Pompey took charge after 26 minutes when Jed Wallace latched on to Nicky Shorey's pass and swept the ball home beautifully. Ricky Holmes stormed clear after 32 minutes, but lashed his strike straight at Cobblers goalkeeper Matt Duke. Portsmouth doubled their lead when Nigel Atangana's through ball picked out Craig Westcarr, who raced clear and neatly lifted the ball beyond Duke six minutes before the break. The Cobblers turned up the pressure on the Blues after the break. Ivan Toney had a shot deflected wide just before the hour mark, before Pompey keeper Paul Jones saved a low strike from John-Joe O'Toole after 70 minutes. Portsmouth withstood the threat well, though, and were inches from making it three when Atangana nipped on to substitute Miles Storey's pass and clipped the outside of the post. Atangana then turned provider as Storey nodded his chip just wide from close range five minutes from time.Three in a row for Portsmouth
