Exeter grab draw late on

Liam Sercombe rescued a point for Exeter with a late equaliser as their clash with Portsmouth ended in a 1-1 draw.

Pompey had been the better of the two teams all afternoon and will be ruing the chances they missed with the hosts struggling to fashion much at all. However, Exeter will care little with the goal coming 24 hours after star player Alan Gow joined Bristol Rovers on loan until the end of the season to help ease a financial crisis at St James Park. The deadlock was broken after just nine minutes when Jimmy Keohane gave away a needless free-kick and Jake Jervis reacted quickest to Ben Chorley's knock-down to tap-in from six yards. Ryan Taylor, the former Exeter loanee, had a great chance to kill the game when Grecians goalkeeper Artur Krysiak completely missed a back pass, but his shot ended up in the side-netting, much to Exeter and Krysiak's relief. Pompey looked to be heading for all three points but, deep into injury time, Sercombe's shot took a deflection to leave Trevor Carson stranded and Exeter celebrating an unlikely point.
