Ollie's predictions: Middlesbrough to beat Derby in 'game of the season'

Sky Sports' Ian Holloway predicts the outcomes of the big clashes in the Football League.

Brighton v Wolves, Friday 3.00pm, Sky Sports 5 HD

The goals have dried up for Brighton, it's now four games since they've found the net - that's bad news. James Wilson and Bobby Zamora were only fit enough for the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Ipswich and Tomer Hemed has only notched once in his last 16 games.

Wolves are on a bit of a mini-roll and are now keeping clean sheets. Jordan Graham got his first Wolves goal in the 2-0 win at Charlton. In eight appearances he has provided six assists and once he starts scoring on a regular basis he's going to be a sought-after commodity.

I've had players like him before with that natural talent - Yannick Bolasie was the same at his age - but now he can play anywhere in the front-line as he improved with every game he played. I'm very excited about Graham's career. I love watching players like him - he looks so fresh and always wants the ball. He can be the match winner in this game.

QPR v Hull, Friday 5.15pm, Sky Sports 1 HD

Also See:

QPR have drawn four of the last five games and this looks another prime candidate for a stalemate.

Has Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink got the right ingredients to make his cake taste how he wants it to taste? I don't think they have the same ingredients as the teams towards the top - maybe six or seven of them. What they do have is a magic ingredient in Charlie Austin, that makes everything taste much better - happy days. It's the Cinderella effect. Without him though, QPR draw too many games.

Hull must be sweating a little bit as Middlesbrough and Derby are brilliantly consistent. Both teams will probably take a draw and that's where I'm going.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 1-1 (Sky Bet odds 6/1)

Middlesbrough v Derby, Saturday 3.00

Wow. This is the game of the season. I wish I was going. In fact, there are three or four games I'd like to be at this weekend - let's hope Sky Sports can get that clone machine invention sorted soon. I can then be everywhere!

Highlights of Leeds's 2-2 draw with Derby in the Sky Bet Championship

Fair to play to Boro, they made Sheffield Wednesday and my prediction look very ordinary the other day - that's the secret to it, stifling the strengths of the opposition. They were position perfect throughout the game - like they were at Brighton. The back-four is unbelievably solid - that square of Ben Gibson and Daniel Ayala with Adam Clayton and Grant Leadbitter in front them is phenomenal.

The last goal they conceded at home was against Brentford on September 15! That's a quarter of a year without conceding. Like a few of us after the Christmas period, Dimi Konstantopoulos must feel massive! They almost look like a Premier League side already.

Derby have a huge test on their hands to break this unit down - and I can't see them doing it with the way they play. Middlesbrough want you to play through midfield. If Derby play their normal passing game, Aitor Karanka's men will stop them. Home win.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 1-0 (Sky Bet odds 6/1)

Bolton v Huddersfield, Saturday 3.00

Highlights of the Championship match between Bolton and Blackburn from the Macron Stadium

Despite beating Blackburn, Bolton are still in turmoil.

Reportedly, the players have not received their wages since the end of October, and if they don't get them before the end of December then they are free to serve notice to the club and walk away for nothing a fortnight later. That is the last thing Bolton need right now as there is serious value in that squad.

They are running downhill with no brakes and if players start leaving on free transfers, then it would be an absolute disaster. I've been through it at QPR but we managed to somehow pay everyone their money, so we kept the registrations of the players.

Maybe that's why the players stepped up their performance against Blackburn as they could be in the shop window. Football is a team game but it's a selfish team game. Normally when you get home however you've performed and you've got money in the bank, but if you're not getting paid it's very difficult. It must be very tough to motivate that group.

Huddersfield have a settled group. The chairman has decided his man is David Wagner and they've got a good chance of getting some unity there. With Nahki Wells in form, they look a good bet to beat Bolton.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 0-1 (Sky Bet odds 6/1)

Burnley v Ipswich, Saturday 3.00

This is a game that is bordering on being officially unpredictable. Anything could happen.

Burnley have just smashed Bristol City while Ipswich went to Brighton and won - I'm struggling big-time to call it, but it's my duty to predict, so I'll go for a pulsating, end-to-end and high-scoring draw. But it could quite easily by 0-0 or 3-1 either way. My head is spinning.

It's a belter of a game and a win would be huge for either team's promotion hopes.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 2-2 (Sky Bet odds 20/1)

Cardiff v Blackburn, Saturday 3.00

The squad at Blackburn is stale - like a stagnant pond. Paul Lambert needs to put the motor boat in there and stir it all up in January. Too many of those players have been there too long and won't be of the quality that Lambert is used to. One or two new faces might be enough to get everyone going again.

Highlights of Cardiff's 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in the Sky Bet Championship

Cardiff amaze me. No-one really talks about them but they are still up there - just six points off the play-offs. They carry a sting in the tail and still could surprise a few people this season. However, they need to start turning draws into wins and the strikers need to start getting on the end of some brilliant service from the midfield. They haven't got an out-and-out goalscorer.

Kenwyne Jones should be doing better than he is. He's frustrated lots of managers because he's so laid back. Come on, son! You've got it all, but you're not doing enough. Just look at Jamie Vardy - he's always on the move and he's banging them in.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 1-0 (Sky Bet odds 6/1)

Charlton v Nottingham Forest, Saturday 3.00

You don't go seven matches unbeaten if you haven't got something about you. Dougie Freedman is developing a talented squad at Forest - he's settled everyone down and hopefully the man in charge can see he's got a wonderful football club on his hands.

It's quite the opposite at Charlton. I don't know what's going on. There's is no plan in place. You have to invest. Put up, shut up or get out. There is unrest in the stands and Forest will be relishing this trip. This looks an away win with David Vaughan banging one in with his left-foot - he's been excellent in their unbeaten run.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 0-2 (Sky Bet odds 11/1)

Fulham v Sheffield Wednesday, Saturday 3.00

Highlights of Fulham's 4-1 win over Rotherham in the Sky Bet Championship

Slavisa Jokanovic is just what Fulham need. He's a very, very good manager, who did a great job at Watford and I'm glad they've kept Stuart Gray on the coaching staff too. They need to be patient though - give that young team a chance to learn and play. Learn and play. Learn and play - and you might get into that top-six in a year or two.

I've got a bee in my bonnet with Sheffield Wednesday - they let me down big style against Middlesbrough! I really like the way they play but Fulham will be buzzing around all over the place, like they were in the 4-1 win over Rotherham, looking to impress their new manager.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 3-1 (Sky Bet odds 16/1)

Leeds v MK Dons, Saturday 3.00

I fancy a home win here. This Leeds team have really impressed me since Steve Evans took the job. They are putting in a real shift for their manager and they have the talent to complement that hard work. They looked down and out when I covered them at Wolves, but they came back with great a resurgence to win 3-2 in the end. Plus, any team that can stop Derby from winning are worth keeping onside.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 1-0 (Sky Bet odds 9/2)

Preston v Rotherham, Saturday 3.00

This match could prove the last appearance for the on-loan Jordan Pickford, who could return to Sunderland. He is an absolutely outstanding English goalkeeper and is one of the main reasons why Preston have the fifth best defensive record in the league.

I love when a young player goes out on loan and gets playing. Just look at Jack Butland - he went on loan to Birmingham, Leeds and Derby and he now looks a world beater. Pickford can take great heart from Butland's achievements.

Rotherham and Neil Redfearn deserve huge credit for the run they've been on but Preston have already won 1-0 four times at home this season - they should make it five to give Pickford the perfect clean sheet send off.
