Romelu Lukaku could sign a new contract at Everton after confirming the striker wants to stay at the club for at least one more season.

Manager Ronald Koeman revealed the Belgium striker came to see him ahead of Saturday's 2-1 victory at West Brom and withdrew his transfer request.

Koeman introduced Lukaku as a 38th-minute tactical substitution after his side fell 1-0 down at the Hawthorns and the player helped change the game in the Toffees' favour.

And Koeman said: "He spoke to me yesterday morning that he has made the decision himself to stay one more season at Everton, and that's great news.

"A new contract is possible. I don't doubt his qualities. He was out for 10 days with an injury but I'm not so stupid as to put him on the bench next week. That's no question.

Ronald Koeman says having a strong bench helps win games

"It was a tactical change. We started with three at the back, like we did against Tottenham. If you go 1-0 down and they drop more back then you really need a target man, and to make the pitch wider with wingers.

"We were then the dominant team and 1-1 before half-time had a big impact on the final result."
