When Jack Whitehall met Thierry Henry: Chelsea v Arsenal, David Luiz, Granit Xhaka and Jamie Redknapp

Watch Jack Whitehall's interview with Thierry Henry ahead of Saturday's lunchtime clash between Chelsea and Arsenal, live on Sky Sports

Ahead of Chelsea v Arsenal on Sky Sports on Saturday, comedian and Arsenal fan Jack Whitehall quizzed Thierry Henry on an array of topics.

As well as asking Henry about the game itself, Whitehall got the former Arsenal striker's opinion on David Luiz, Granit Xhaka's disciplinary issues, the Gunners' title hopes, and how he finds working with Jamie Redknapp.

Here's the interview in full...

Whitehall: What memories do you have of Arsenal v Chelsea fixtures as a player?

Henry: Great memories for a very long time, then Roman Abramovich came along and it became annoying!

No, you can't really say that. They were not far from us at one point then they took that little step when Abramovich arrived, but a lot of the players, the guys who became legends at Chelsea, were there already before he came.

We used to dominate London and suddenly they arrived and started to be a bit more than loud.

Did you really want to beat them? It became one of our main rivalries.

Yeah, it did. They became really competitive, and I always enjoyed the derby and playing against them.

Arsenal's win over Chelsea in September was probably their best performance this season, how much has changed since then? How has Antonio Conte got them playing so well?

Sometimes a defeat can be better than winning. Antonio Conte realised at that moment that to win this league he needed to go back to what he wanted - three at the back.

At the start he wanted to adapt to the players he had, then after an hour against Arsenal he changed the system and they haven't looked back since. Sometimes when you play a certain way, like the way they lost against Arsenal, it changed his view of what he had to do.

Arsenal are in a situation where it was a lot of up and down in the league, then we went on an amazing run then struggled a bit...but Chelsea went on a bigger run.

I don't understand this, but you're a football expert...David Luiz used to get exposed all the time and now he doesn't seem to make any mistakes, why is that?

You have to give Antonio Conte credit because he put a tactic out there that was going to make all the players look good rather than suspicious.

Basically putting the man in the middle, and this is not the guy that needs to step out. Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta go and he has to stay there, so he knows even more so than before that he cannot make a mistake.

The guy can mature. If you saw me play when I was 20 I was a loose cannon...then at 28 I wasn't the same player. So you have to give credit to him.

Also, the guy can mature. If you saw me play when I was 20 I was a loose cannon, I used to run everywhere and not do what the game was asking me to do at times, then at 28 I wasn't the same player. So you have to give credit to him too.

Yes he made mistakes when he arrived in the Premier League, but he did well at Paris Saint-Germain, then you look at what he won. He won the Champions League, the Europa League, went to PSG and won trophies, and he is coming back and might win the league. So he must be doing something right.

Granit Xhaka keeps getting sent off and some fans are losing patience. If he was in your dressing room, what would you say?

I can't say now because we are being filmed! Patrick Vieira was a special player, we know that, but we understood he had to grow into not getting sent off, and people were targeting him, so what you need is your team to help you from getting into trouble. But he needs to learn the process of not doing what he is doing, especially the way he does it.

Patrick used to respond to someone, but Xhaka just does it, like the other day against Burnley when he lost the ball 60 yards away from goal. It's not the end of the world, it happens, but he lost his mind.

I have done stuff I shouldn't have done, so you have to understand as a fan he will make mistakes as he has just arrived and he needs to learn. But he will mature and hopefully he can be a good asset for us.

What's it like working with Jamie Redknapp?

I will be honest and fair. I always used to admire Jamie as a player, I thought he was unfortunate with all the injuries he had. When he was playing I always thought he could see the game in midfield and wasn't just about getting into people's faces.

We don't compete with each other, we complete each other!
Thierry Henry on his relationship with Jamie Redknapp

Now knowing him, the way I was thinking about him matches exactly, because I know he knows the game. Obviously he paid me to say that....

Do you two compete with each other? Do you think 'that's a lovely ensemble he has and I need to up my game'?

We don't compete with each other, we complete each other!

Okay, what's your prediction for Chelsea v Arsenal?

My heart always goes for Arsenal. We need to win, we have to win.

Can we win the league?

The squad is good enough but they need to believe. And that's an everyday thing.

How important is it we get Alexis Sanchez to sign a new deal?

Vital, and Mesut Ozil too. I don't know all the things around it because I am not in the dressing room but it is vital to keep those guys.
