Police confirm fireworks set off outside Barcelona hotel ahead of Liverpool tie

Merseyside Police have confirmed a report was received of fireworks being set off outside Barcelona's hotel before their Champions League tie with Liverpool.

The report was received around 4am on Tuesday morning before the semi-final second leg at Anfield, which Barcelona lead 3-0 on aggregate.

Fireworks were set off at Chavasse Park in Liverpool city centre outside the the Hilton Hotel, where the Barcelona squad are staying.

"It is against the law to carry or use adult fireworks if you are under 18, and illegal for people of any age to let off or throw a firework in a public place," a Merseyside Police statement read.
