Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk has rubbished speculation that he could be in contention to win the Ballon d'Or after collecting the 2018/19 PFA Player of the Year Award.
The Netherlands captain has featured in every Liverpool Premier League game this season, helping the Reds to 20 clean sheets.
The 27-year-old pipped Raheem Sterling to the coveted title on Sunday as the Manchester City forward took home the Young Player of the Year.
When questioned about the chances of winning the Ballon d'Or, Van Dijk said: "Nah, that's not something that's on my mind at all.
"There are currently players walking around in this football world that are out of this world basically and they've been doing it for many years.
"I'm very happy how I perform at the moment, how consistent I'm performing, that I'm fit as well. I think I just need to not look too far ahead."
The defender has helped Jurgen Klopp's team to the last four of this season's Champions League with four clean sheets and two goals in nine matches.
Liverpool face two crucial games against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Wednesday and away at Newcastle on Saturday, which could determine their fate in this season's European and domestic competitions.
Van Dijk added: "Right now we're in a tight title race, in the Champions League semi-finals against a fantastic team, where probably the best players are playing so we just take it game by game.
"For us now it's time to focus on Barcelona midweek and then we have a big game at Newcastle away as well so I won't look too far ahead and the only goals I will set are personal goals with Liverpool."
