Adam Lallana was sent-off playing for Liverpool U23s on Monday after an altercation with Tottenham's George Marsh.
Lallana reacted angrily after an aerial challenge from Marsh in the second half, with Spurs 1-0 up at Stevenage's Broadhall Way stadium.
The forward put his hands around the neck of Marsh and was then shown a straight red card for his actions in the 61st minute.
Lallana was one of four first-team Reds who started the game, which they ultimately lost 1-0, along with Dominic Solanke, Danny Ings and Ben Woodburn.
Lallana has had a frustrating season of injury setbacks. The 29-year-old has made only seven appearances all term and his last appearance was in the away defeat to Swansea on January 22.
Liverpool went down to nine men later in the game when George Johnston was dismissed on 87 minutes. Jack Roles was the goalscorer for Spurs.
