Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool are capable of winning the Premier League title this season.
The German says his team have an improved squad and is upbeat ahead of the new campaign.
Klopp said: "We will be playing for the championship. We don't start a season by not having any ambitions.
"We have to have our goals. That's what we did last season. We aimed for the top, and we finished fourth. But I think we have a very good team now.
"We did have a bit of bad luck last season. I think we can play a little bit better. Let's hope everything will work very well and that there isn't much more to improve. We have to work very hard on it and we're doing that."
Liverpool face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, and the German club's manager Carlo Ancelotti is hoping the Reds reach the group stages of this season's Champions League.
The Italian said: "I think the Champions League this year will be more competitive because there are really important English teams in the competition - United, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool.
"I hope Jurgen will win in the qualification round and then Liverpool will help make the Champions League more competitive. It will be more difficult to win."
