Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart has signed a new contract with the club after making his debut for Jurgen Klopp's side last month.

The length of his deal has not been revealed, although it has been reported the 22-year-old is now tied to the Anfield side until the summer of 2020 with the option of a further year.

Stewart has been with Liverpool since leaving Tottenham in 2014, although he only made his first-team debut for the Merseyside outfit a few weeks ago.

That came with a start at Exeter in the FA Cup and he has since followed that up with four more outings.

Three others came in the same competition - all as a starter - and he came on as a substitute in the second half of Liverpool's recent 6-0 Premier League win at Aston Villa.

He told liverpoolfc.com: "It gives me more confidence. It shows (the club) believe in me and believe I could go on to become a good player for them.

"It has just given me confidence in myself and the security (gives me) time to prove myself and get better with good coaches and good players."
