Phil Thompson says fans leaving early in the Premier League is nothing new, but insisted he wouldn't do so himself.

Jurgen Klopp's unbeaten start to life at Liverpool came to an end on Sunday as Crystal Palace secured a surprising 2-1 victory thanks to Scott Dann's late header.

And when asked for his thoughts following Liverpool's third league defeat of the season, the charismatic German expressed his disappointment at the amount of supporters leaving the ground early, as the Reds toiled to find an equaliser.

However, Sky Sports pundit Thompson does not blame fans from leaving a sodden Anfield before the final whistle, but insisted he would never follow suit.

"I could say it is not Liverpool-like, but people do have to leave early,"  Thompson said.

"We have seen it at places like the Emirates, because it is difficult getting away, people do live different distances away from the ground - there are mitigating circumstances.

Everybody should stay, see the team through to the end. We have seen, particularly in the Premier League, plenty of late goals turn games.

"I would love it if people stayed, like Jurgen Klopp. Everybody should stay, see the team through to the end. We have seen, particularly in the Premier League, plenty of late goals turn games.

"Fans leaving was not the reason Liverpool lost that game. You just have to look at Klopp at the end, he was drenched - it was a downpour. All those areas around Jurgen are where people will get wet too.

"This is a way of life at a Premier League ground. People leave early. I wouldn't, even if I was getting wet, but people are different, and live different distances [from the ground]."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his side were unlucky in defeat to Crystal Palace having played well after a bad start.
