Victor Valdes has seemingly hit back at Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal’s claims the goalkeeper refused to play for the U21 side.
The Spaniard was left out of the squad which travelled to the United States for United’s pre-season tour, but had tweeted earlier in the week that he was “working hard” for the new season, finishing the message with: “Come on you Reds”.
However, in a press conference on Wednesday night, Van Gaal made it clear Valdes had no future at Old Trafford, claiming the 33-year-old had refused to line-up for the reserve team.
"He is not selected because he doesn't follow our philosophy and there is no place for that one player," Van Gaal said.
"Philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm. For example, he refused last year to play in the second team.”
Valdes, though, has apparently hit back, posting on Twitter the message “…? #Respect” along with pictures highlighting three matches he played in for the U21 team against Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.
