Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has denied suggestions he spat at Sergio Aguero in Sunday’s Manchester derby.

Fellaini and Manchester City striker Aguero clashed in the first half of the home side’s 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero fell to the floor after Fellaini kicked his standing leg leading to a penalty appeal from City, although no spot-kick was given.

Fellaini was clearly angered by Aguero’s reaction and bent over him as he lay face down on the floor, with TV replays showing some spit appeared to leave the Belgian's mouth but Fellaini insists he did nothing wrong.

"The press loves to invent the stories when there aren't any," he tweeted. "Thanks the journalist. #ferity #tospit."

The Football Association will wait to see if referee Michael Oliver mentions the incident in his report before deciding whether any action should be taken against the former Everton player.

If the matter was not seen by the referee or his assistants, the FA video review panel could take disciplinary action against Fellaini, if they believe it to be a deliberate act.
