Ashley Young: Inter Milan in talks with Manchester United over signing defender

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on players leaving United: "We can't weaken ourselves; we have to strengthen ourselves"

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he does not know anything about Ashley Young's proposed move to Inter Milan, adding Manchester United want to strengthen in the transfer window

Inter Milan are in talks with Manchester United over signing Ashley Young, Sky Sports News understands.

The 34-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he is free to discuss a move to the Italian side this month.

Sky in Italy report Inter are ready to offer Young an 18-month deal if he signs this month, but it is unclear if United will allow him to leave in January.

Young would become the third United player to join Antonio Conte's side inside a year following the transfers of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Young has made 12 appearances in all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far this season.

Speaking on The Debate, former United defender John O'Shea feels it might be time for both parties to go their separate ways.

"It would be a bit of a blow to lose his experience," admitted O'Shea.

"But with the performances of Brandon Williams, maybe United are thinking they can get a bit of a transfer fee and Ashley can get a new experience under Conte. It would be a good end to his career."

Ole: We can't weaken ourselves

United boss Solskjaer denied any knowledge of Young's possible move before adding United should not "weaken themselves" following Tuesday's 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

"I don't know what you're talking about - you'll have to ask Ash," he said. "We've got a few months left of this season. We can't weaken ourselves; we need to strengthen ourselves, if any movement if going to happen."

Inter keen on Giroud and Eriksen deals

Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has already confirmed they are interested in signing Christian Eriksen but says they have made no contact with Tottenham.

"Eriksen is an excellent player whose contract expires in June and we have had no contact with Tottenham," he told Sky in Italy.

They reported last week that Inter are one of several clubs to have contacted Eriksen's representatives about his future.

The 27-year-old's Tottenham contract expires in the summer and he is free to talk to foreign clubs this month.

Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud also remains a target for Conte although the clubs have not had any fresh contact since the January window opened.

The Serie A club were in touch with Chelsea before Christmas over a deal for the France international, according to Sky In Italy.
