Manchester United should use Paul Pogba in a midfield three in order to get the best out of him, according to Danny Higginbotham.

The Frenchman was dropped by Jose Mourinho for last weekend's 2-0 win over Huddersfield, but hopes to reclaim his place when Manchester United face Newcastle on Super Sunday.

According to Higginbotham, Pogba's presence in United's midfield is key to getting the best out of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard.

Pogba is at his most dangerous when running beyond the opposition's midfield and linking up with the forwards, Higginbotham says, which is why it is imperative for Mourinho to deploy him in a three-man midfield.

"I think he brings so much to United in terms of the way they play - especially when they are attacking," says Higginbotham. "In a 4-3-3, Pogba has the licence to go and get forward and not worry too much about the defensive side of the game."
