WATCH: Penalty controversy at Hull

Phil Neville and Alex Bruce debate the two similar penalty decisions in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final between Hull and Manchester United

There was controversy at Hull on Thursday night as two similar penalty decisions in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final second leg between Hull and Manchester United saw one given and one not.

Referee Jon Moss pointed to the spot after 34 minutes after seeing Marcos Rojo apparently pull the shirt of Harry Maguire in the box, from which Tom Huddlestone duly converted.

But in the 53rd minute there was a similar incident at the other end of the pitch as Chris Smalling appeared to be pushed by Huddlestone, but the referee didn't award a spot-kick.

Manchester United held a two-goal lead going into the second leg, but Huddlestone's penalty put the Red Devils under extreme pressure before they eventually squeezed through with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
