After Wayne Rooney broke Manchester United's all-time goalscoring record, we asked Sky Sports pundits to pick their favourite strike.

Rooney's superb free-kick in stoppage time in United's 1-1 draw at Stoke means he now has 250 goals for the club, one more than Sir Bobby Charlton's haul.

Since arriving at the club from Everton in 2004, the 31-year-old has scored his fair share of goal-of-the-season contenders, but which is the best? We asked the pundits...

Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher choose their top three Rooney goals

THIERRY: It's no surprise, the best is the overhead kick against Manchester City, for obvious reasons. The beauty of the goal, against who it was, it's such a difficult skill. You want to keep it on target, and when you put it in the top corner, it makes it better.

JAMIE: I agree. It's a fantastic goal, the size of the game, with two teams fighting for the title, it's got to be number one.

For number two, it's his volley against Newcastle in 2005. He's berating the referee, and I think he takes his anger out on the ball, and he hits it as hard as he can.

We take a look back at some of Rooney's best goals in United's colours

To hit a volley so sweet, to actually get bend on it to, swerve and dip, everything. Honestly, I just think if he wasn't that angry at that time would he have hit that volley that hard? He thinks it's the referee's head or something!

THIERRY: Third, it's the goal at West Ham in 2014 from the halfway line. What impresses me is that it's a one-touch finish. To do it one touch is a hell of a finish.

Phil Thompson

My favourite has got to be his overhead volley against Manchester City. It takes big players to turn up in big games and that was just absolutely stunning. Even I enjoyed that!

People don't like taking chances and risks in derbies, which is why many over the years are stalemates, but Wayne Rooney took a chance and delivered with the highest quality.

I'm certainly not going to go for the goals he scored against my side on his debut. It has to be the overhead kick in the Manchester derby.

One of the finest goals you'll see. Yeah there's a bit of luck in the direction but, given the opposition and the importance, I think it will be his favourite one.

Matt Le Tissier

I think we would probably have to go for the volley against Newcastle after arguing with the referee. I think it just summed him up in a few seconds, with his ability to get wound up and then produce the spectacular.

Matt Le Tissier was full of superlatives over Rooney’s superb record-breaking goal

I think he's lost a bit of that fire in his belly as he's got a bit older but that is how I'll remember him when he hangs his boots up.
