Wembley pitch size affects Tottenham's pressing game, says Danny Higginbotham

Danny Higginbotham examines how the big Wembley pitch is affecting Tottenham and explains why he is backing Liverpool on Super Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino's side went unbeaten at White Hart Lane last season, but it has been a different story in their temporary home, where they have only won once in four Premier League games.

Spurs have gone from playing on the smallest pitch in the Premier League to the biggest, and Higginbotham believes it has compromised their high-pressing tactics.

"The problem is not in behind them, the problem comes about higher up the pitch," he tells Sky Sports. "Last season there were no areas where teams could take advantage of [space], this season the problem is in between the midfield and the defence."

Higginbotham says Spurs are struggling to close the space in the opposition's half as they did last year, and points out that their best performances this season have come away to Everton and Huddersfield - who play on two of the smallest pitches in the division.

Totteham have averaged more possession at home this season due to the new pitch size, according to Higginbotham, and that could work to Liverpool's advantage on Sunday.

"The way that Liverpool play, they will be more than happy for Tottenham to have the majority of the possession," he says. "Therefore, I'm going to go for a Liverpool win."
