Harry Kane emerged as the new front-runner for the Premier League Golden Boot.

The Tottenham striker was installed as Sky Bet's odds-on favourite on Super Sunday after taking his tally to 21 against Bournemouth by scoring twice for the second game in a row, while Leicester's Jamie Vardy, Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Manchester City's Sergio Aguero all failed to find the net.

Liverpool's Christian Benteke and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney were the best-backed strikers before the start of the season, according to Sky Bet, but the duo have managed just seven goals apiece in this campaign so far.

Here is a look at the main contenders for the Premier League golden boot...

Harry Kane - 21 goals (8/13 with Sky Bet)

Kane has dismissed suggestions he would be a one-season wonder by matching last season's total of 21 with his double against Bournemouth. The 22-year-old currently leads the scoring charts and has played a key role in Tottenham's title charge. Sky Bet now consider him the odds-on favourite for the award, having pushed his odds out to 40/1 after he scored just once in his first nine league appearances.

Jamie Vardy - 19 goals (7/2 with Sky Bet)

An epitome of Leicester's odds-defying efforts, former Stocksbridge Park Steels forward Vardy was given a 200/1 chance of being the league's leading marksman before a ball was kicked this season, having netted just five times in the previous campaign. He racked up the majority of his goals in an historic 11-match scoring streak, but has struggled of late, failing to net in his last five. Following three successive nervy 1-0 wins, Foxes fans will be hoping their star striker can rediscover his scoring touch and ease anxiety during the run in.

Romelu Lukaku - 18 goals (9/2 with Sky Bet)

With 25 goals to his name in all competitions, Lukaku is actually the Premier League player with the most goals this season, when domestic cup games are included. Unlike his rivals for the trophy - who are chasing the Premier League title - Lukaku's 18 Premier League strikes have come for an Everton side down in 12th. The Toffees' impressive goal haul - they've scored more than third-placed Arsenal - has largely been down to Lukaku's finishing.

Sergio Aguero - 16 goals (9/1 with Sky Bet)

Despite a troubling injury record, Argentina star Aguero was considered the clear favourite to top the scoring charts in pre-season at just 11/4. However, those injury issues are proving decisive to his Golden Boot hopes. Aguero boasts a superior goals-per-minute rate to top scorer Kane but trails the Tottenham man by five goals. Aguero has missed seven Premier League games this season - Kane has been ever-present for Spurs.

Riyad Mahrez - 16 goals (40/1 with Sky Bet)

Vardy may have found the net three times more but Mahrez has arguably been more important to Leicester's title charge, contributing 11 assists, a tally only bettered by Mesut Ozil. The Algerian winger has also delivered when his side needed him most, scoring 12 times on the road this season, including recent winners at Watford and Crystal Palace. That contribution has seen him installed as the 4/7 favourite in Sky Bet's PFA Player of the Year odds, followed by Vardy (13/8) and Kane (8/1).

Outsiders

Watford's Odion Ighalo (150/1) had been in the mix for the majority of the season but has failed to add to his tally of 14 since January, firing blanks in his last seven league appearances. That drought will have been forgiven by Hornets fans after he sent them into the FA Cup semi-finals with a victory at Arsenal.

The Gunners' top scorer Oliver Giroud (200/1) was kept quiet in that Emirates upset and is on an even longer goalless streak, failing to add to his 12 goals in their last nine games, which has also seen him slip behind Danny Welbeck in the pecking order.

Diego Costa (also 200/1) is the only other player still priced up in Sky Bet's market, but has had his late surge of eight goals in 10 games disrupted by a two-match ban, leaving him 10 goals behind Kane.
