Swansea are facing a fight to keep manager Graham Potter after interest from Premier League survivors Brighton.
Brighton could appoint Swansea manager Potter within the week, Sky Sports News has learned.
The Swans have a release clause in Potter's contract of just under £2m and Brighton are prepared to pay that for the 43-year-old.
Brighton are currently looking for Chris Hughton's replacement after sacking him on Monday and Potter is their primary target.
Potter still has two years left on his contract at the Liberty Stadium. It is thought the prospect of managing in the Premier League could entice him to make the move from South Wales to the south of England.
Swansea's new chairman, Trevor Birch, has made it clear he won't let Potter leave without a fight. A formal approach from Brighton was refused on Tuesday.
Brighton have been impressed with Potter's handling of a difficult situation at Swansea and their ongoing financial challenges, securing a 10th-placed finish in the Championship and an FA Cup quarter-final appearance.
He also fits with Brighton's desire for an English coach. Brighton's technical director Dan Ashworth left a similar role at the FA in the autumn, where his focus was to get more English managers into the Premier League.
