Thierry Henry is edging closer to becoming Monaco's next manager, with talks between the two parties at an advanced stage, say Sky sources.

Leonardo Jardim was sacked on Thursday with the club 18th in Ligue 1, having won just one of their opening nine matches.

Henry is favourite for the job, and has a strong connection with Monaco after starting his professional career with the principality side.

He left Sky Sports in the summer in order to pursue his ambition of becoming a manager, although he is still part of Roberto Martinez's backroom staff with Belgium.

The former France and Arsenal forward took the job in 2016, and is currently expected to remain with the national team for their Nations League match against Switzerland on Friday.

Henry held talks with Aston Villa this week about becoming their new manager, according to Sky sources, but they appointed Dean Smith on Wednesday.
