Paul Merson's predictions: Who will start 2018 on a winning note?

By Paul Merson, Football Expert & Columnist @PaulMerse

There's a feast of Premier League football to kick off the new year, but who is Paul Merson tipping to start 2018 with a win? And who looks as though they have 'gone' already?

There are live games on Sky Sports for the first four days of January with Arsenal v Chelsea next up on Wednesday and Spurs v West Ham on Thursday.

Here's who Merse is tipping to win in the next couple of days...

Arsenal v Chelsea (Wednesday, live on Sky Sports Premier League from 7pm)

This is a good game. I have seen Arsenal a lot this season and they do give you chances. Going forward Chelsea are better than some of the teams Arsenal have played recently and I think they will pick them off as the game goes on.

There doesn't seem a lot of good harmony at Arsenal at the moment. That celebration the other day was worrying. When you are winning it's OK but you don't win that many games when it's like that. Not everybody likes everybody in a football team, that's fact, but when you get on the pitch whatever happens off the pitch you give your all together, that is what wins you trophies, not petulance like 'I don't like him so I won't celebrate with him'. That doesn't win you anything.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3 (18/1 with Sky Bet)

Tottenham v West Ham (Thursday, live on Sky Sports Premier League from 7.30pm)

I know they both have games to play before this but I don't care if West Ham win 27-0 on Tuesday, they are not beating Tottenham.

Spurs are a really good team and when they get all their players out they score goals and make lots of chances. The only worry at the moment for me is Hugo Lloris, who is making some mistakes. It's not like him and I think he is a good goalkeeper but he has made some sloppy mistakes. I don't know if he is getting bored because he is a top goalkeeper. But with Tottenham getting players back like Davinson Sanchez and then Toby Alderweireld they won't concede too many goals.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-1 (9/1 with Sky Bet)
