Malky Mackay will take charge of Scotland for a friendly against the Netherlands on November 9 in Aberdeen.
The Scottish FA performance director and former Watford, Cardiff and Wigan manager will take interim control of the national team.
Both teams narrowly missed out on securing a World Cup qualifying play-off spot so will be looking to bounce back at Pittodrie.
Gordon Strachan had been in charge since January 2013, but left his role on Thursday as Scotland manager after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
A 2-2 draw for Scotland in Slovenia was only enough for third place in Group F as Slovakia beat Malta 3-0.
The Netherlands needed to beat Sweden by six goals to make the play-offs in Group A, but only managed to win 2-0 and finished third.
The introduction of UEFA's Nations League Tournament could make this one of the national team's final games at Pittodrie because it is unable to host competitive international fixtures, and SFA chief executive Stewart Regan was pleased to give fans in the north of the country an opportunity to see Scotland play.
He said: "We are delighted to bring international football back to the north east.
"The Netherlands will provide a stern test for the team and top class entertainment value for the fans."
