Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling remain absent for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Tottenham on Super Sunday.

The defenders continue to be sidelined through injury, but those that featured in Thursday's Europa League win at Zorya Luhansk have emerged unscathed.

United host Spurs looking for a first home league win since September, having drawn their last four top flight games at Old Trafford.

Tottenham have won their last two, returning to form with a 5-0 win over Swansea in the Premier League last week, before a 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek.

Opta stats

Manchester United have won only two of their last eight Premier League contests against Spurs (D3 L3).

Spurs' 3-0 win over Manchester United in April at White Hart Lane was their biggest win over the Red Devils in the Premier League since January 1996 (4-1).

However, Tottenham have lost 19 times at Old Trafford in the Premier League (W2 D3), their most defeats at a visiting ground.

Harry Kane has scored against 21 of the 24 different opponents that he has faced in the Premier League, but is yet to score against Man Utd in five apps. The other teams that he has played but not scored against in the competition are Watford (2 apps, 0 goals) and Cardiff City (2 apps, 0 goals).

Kane has now scored seven goals in his last six Premier League appearances - this after failing to score in his previous five in a row.

Merson's prediction

If Man Utd lose this game, it's the middle of December and they are out of the title race.

They'll be struggling to stay in the top-four hunt too, with fifth-place Spurs already six points ahead of Jose Mourinho's side. They can't allow that gap to grow to nine.

I think they're playing well enough at the moment and creating chances, and before Marouane Fellaini came on against Everton, it was a very Jose Mourinho performance at Goodison.

It's how they turn those draws into wins, but I'm backing them to figure it out against Tottenham.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-1 (Sky Bet odds 16/1)

Betting

Manchester United are Sky Bet's 23/20 favourites with Tottenham 12/5 for the win while a draw is priced at 23/10. The visitors are, however, shorter odds in both the Premier League title and top four outright, with Mourinho's men 50/1 and 9/4 respectively.
