Spurs pegged back Liverpool to draw 1-1 at White Hart Lane but there were a number of debatable decisions that proved to be the main talking points from the game.
Liverpool felt they should have had a penalty when Jan Vertonghen grappled with Joel Matip in the box, with referee Bobby Madley stopping play after Jordan Henderson had taken the corner but electing only to give Vertonghen a stern warning rather than award a foul.
Matip was then involved in another controversial incident at the other end of the pitch when he tussled with Vincent Janssen inside the Liverpool area, with Madley once again waving away appeals for a penalty.
Madley finally did point to the spot when Erik Lamela clipped Roberto Firmino as he drove into the box, allowing James Milner to fire Liverpool into a half-time lead.
It originally looked like the Reds attacker had stumbled over his own feet but, although replays confirmed there was contact from Lamela, they raised questions about whether the foul took place inside or outside the box.
If the first half was eventful, then the second followed in the same vein.
Sadio Mane thought he had doubled Liverpool's lead in the 57th minute but his effort was ruled out after Adam Lallana was adjudged to be offside in the build-up. Replays failed to settle the debate as certain angles seemed to show Lallana in line with Danny Rose, while the linesman's position also cast doubt on the borderline decision.
It proved to be a pivotal moment in the match as a second Liverpool goal could have given the Reds an unassailable lead. As it turned out, Liverpool were left to rue these decisions after Danny Rose's well-taken strike levelled the tie.
