Georginio Wijnaldum felt Liverpool's inability to deal with Burnley's "long balls" was a contributing factor in their Turf Moor defeat.
Jurgen Klopp's side were beaten 2-0 by the newly-promoted Clarets as they failed to build on an impressive opening-weekend win at Arsenal.
Goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray gave Burnley their first victory of the campaign, following a home loss to Swansea in their opener.
Liverpool had 80.6 per cent of the possession on Saturday but were unable to translate that dominance into goals, and Wijnaldum, a summer signing from Newcastle, felt the opposition's style was a factor.
"It's difficult to say why [Liverpool lost]," Wijnaldum told the club's official website. "They play differently to Arsenal, with lots of long balls and trying to win the second ball. We made two mistakes and they scored two goals and we didn't create any big chances. That was the story in the first half.
"We expected to create better chances than we did. Sometimes you have the kind of games that it doesn't work, and you have to keep your confidence and look forward."
Wijnaldum knows it is vital Liverpool do not allow the defeat to detract from what was a superb 4-3 win at Arsenal.
"We must move on to the next game and not make the same mistakes we made today, and look forward with confidence, Wijnaldum added. "Every game I try to learn because every game is different. I'd be happier if I could learn from games we win, but from games you lose you learn more."
